Port Captain's Report - June 2024

Port Captain Committee Report – June 2024

Our sailing season is in full  swing with the 4th of July right around the corner.  All but a few boats are launched and in the water, and warm summer sailing has finally arrived!  We still have a few dry moorage spaces left, but wet moorage is just about full, with only one deep-water slip available (E18), at this writing.  Please let us know (if you haven't already) if you do not intend to use your assigned wet moorage space this summer for any reason.

If you have left your trailer in the parking area on the club grounds after launching, be aware that you will soon be charged for that storage at the rate of $11/foot (boat length). This is assuming that you have followed club rules and have properly labeled your trailer with your name and boat OR number, so we can identify who owns the trailer.   If we cannot identify a trailer, it may be “impounded” and made immovable until we can ID and bill the owner!  So please make sure your trailer has the proper identifying info on its tongue.

Since we are out of space in J row along the back fence, thirteen trailers have been re-located to the Bangs' Farm field (near the gate to the Tri-Pass Ski Club).  Trailers we have moved to the field are generally trailers left after launching, without the owner having told us they intended to leave their empty trailer at the club for the summer.  If you need access to a trailer in the field, contact either Kaitlyn or Jody, as both have keys to the field's locked gate. Note that trailers stored in the field are also subject to the $11/foot charge. And even though the farm field is fenced, some trailers there have unsecured ladders and other associated launching items that someone could “walk” off with.  So if your trailer is stored there, you might want to remove or better secure those items.

Lastly, if your boat is moored in a slip, make sure it is tied properly and securely per club rules, listed under Section F in the handbook. An inspection last week showed many boats still have inadequate/weak snubbers and other deficiencies.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, contact the Port Captain Committee at portcaptaineyc@gmail.com .

Happy Sailing!
