Port Captain's Report - May 2024
Our calendar sailing season is moving right along, with June right around the corner. But, due to various circumstances, many boats remain on their trailers in the parking lot rather than in their assigned wet-moorage slips. The rainy Spring weather has certainly been a factor in our slow start to the season, but we are now up against the club-imposed deadline for getting boats in their Summer positions. The Member's Handbook states:
Any boat/trailer that has not been placed in its proper summer moorage by May 20 shall be moved at the direction of the Port Captain and the owner charged a fee of $50.
As you read this, it is now May 20th, so all boats and trailers are supposed to be in their proper places by the end of today! We are also butting up against EYC's Memorial Day Regatta (a bit earlier than usual this year, due to an earlier than usual Memorial Day weekend). To facilitate parking for our expected out-of-town regatta guests, we need to clear space in the center parking island by the end of the week!
If you have paid for Summer dry-moorage for your boat or empty trailer in our parking lot, then we expect you to put your boat/trailer in J row which is along the back fence. We have 36 spaces in J row for Summer storage, and the Port Captain Committee (PCC) has already assigned 17 of those for empty boat trailer storage, 11 to boats on trailers, thus leaving 10 spaces that are supposed to be open. Unfortunately, J row is totally filled-up with boats still awaiting launching, or trailers that have not been removed to their off-site parking places. As of today, nobody should be parked in J row unless they have requested a space there, and been assigned one by the PCC.
Likewise, no one should be parked in the center aisle as of today, but realizing that it is unlikely that the center aisle will be cleared before this weekend's regatta, the PCC and MDR volunteers will start moving unauthorized trailers out of our club parking areas to the Bang's Farm field, just outside the club gate. We plan to start moving trailers starting Wednesday, so there is still time to move your boat/trailer yourself to avoid the $50 fee imposed if we do the relocating. If you're able to help move trailers on Wednesday, your efforts will be greatly appreciated. Please contact the PCC to let us know if you can help! ( portcaptaineyc@gmail.com )
Hopefully most of the inclement weather is behind us, so let's get those boats out of the parking areas, into the water, and start sailing!
