There are several items that need your attention as the season comes to a close.
First, I will be checking and billing any boat that is on the grounds for winter storage in the first two weeks of November (see the 2019 Member Handbook, pages 27 and page 70). If your boat is on the grounds when I check you will be billed for the total winter storage. There will be no prorating after billing. So if I check on Saturday and you remove on Sunday, you will be billed for winter storage.
If you have not cleaned up under your boat please do so. This includes picking up all plastic and metal bottle caps. Cut the grass and clean up any weeds that may become a tree over the winter.
For those planning on storing boats on EYC grounds after the end of the sailing season, please have boats that are stored on the island with their bows facing west and boats on the back fence with their bows facing east. On your trailer you must have your name and OR numbers, which allows me to leave your cover undisturbed when I do my checks. I have the most problem with the catamarans so if you like the way you cover your boat, be sure to put the OR number on the tongue of your trailer as I may not cover the same way that you do. I will remove the cover to find OR numbers if I have too, and if it is raining I may not replace it the way it was.
For wet moorage holders, it’s time to think about what issues with your slip need to be addressed with the water is out. Please remove the spacer boards that cover the dock to slip gap, and secure them to your slip as they sometimes get removed when the weather is bad. Check the dock pins and hairpin clips that attach the slips to the docks. Look at the tie bars that hold the hinges together (this only applies to Dock C). If it is broken or looks cracked please tell Paul Stephens or me so we can get it repaired before winter storms blow in. Check the hoops around your boat for any defects. We will not remove the fingers off of E dock. I found several pins and through bolts that were not tight and were not complete missing hairpin keepers. I know that it was a great sailing year but look after your slip as the boat you save may be yours next year.
I would like once more to thank all of the people that help this year to put together the Youth dock. The list is long and would take up the whole newsletter but you know who you are and I really appreciate all that you did for the club. The only thing we need to do is to put the caps on the piles to keep birds out. They are in the lockers and need to be screwed to the pile to keep them in place.
